Review : Singam (Yamudu 2)

We should know the target before aiming arrow. Without knowing target if we shoot arrow, then its’ no use. Same formula works even in film making. If we know who our target audience are, then we can craft movie according to their sensibilities. Hari has shown his maturity in this aspect. He has decided to impress mass audience with Singam and crafted it like a pucca mass action flick. Let’s see what efforts Surya and Hari have made in this Yamudu sequel to impress masses. Let’s find out whether Singam will impress the masses.

Narasimham (Surya) is a powerful police officer. He earns reputation as a brave police officer after solving a difficult case in Goa. With confidence on Narasimham, CM gives the responsibility of a special case to Narasimham. An international gang is importing illegal arms and weapons from foreign nations to Kakinada. Narasimham has to nab that gang. Surya goes to Kakinada on that mission, not as a police but as a NCC master. By working as NCC master itself, Surya finds out that Thyagaraju, Bhai and Dolly are main culprits in that illegal activity. Only after finding out these details, he takes charge as DSP. How Narasimham nabs these three baddies and saves Kakinada is rest of the story.

This is a pucca mass and action story. Though there isn’t any story, action sequences abound. Director Hari has planned action sequences pretty well. Story runs slowly till Surya takes charge as DSP. It gathers pace after caste clashes in Kakinada. Though it appears that Hansika’s character is just for running story, her character attains significance with drama created in the final stages of the movie. Audience get to see foreign chase scenes in climax, as Narasimham goes to South Africa to catch Dolly.

Compared to Yamudu, Singam has less twists. For that matter there are no twists at all. Yamudu runs with Surya and Prakashraj plotting against each other and outsmarting each other. But there is no such drama in Singam. It’s a complete one sided war with Surya bashing goons at every possible instance. Though action sequences appear as coming just for the sake of action episodes, B and C centre audience will enjoy no doubt.

It appears, just because Anuska starred in Yamudu, director decided to cast her in Singam also. There is no special role for her except dancing in songs. Hansika’s situation is also more or less same, but she has been useful in creating drama in the end. Though Anjali appeared sexy, camera could not capture her beauties perfectly. Lack of a powerful villain is the main drawback of Singam. Santhanam comedy is artificial.

Surya excelled in action scenes. Someone has dubbed for Surya. All through the movie Surya appears shouting in such a loud voice that dubbing artiste’s voice might have sure damaged. Surya has done dances also like fights, unable to come out of police emotion. Devi Sri Prasad music is on the lines of a dubbed movie music. Even in RR, we don’t find his mark. Producers have dished out huge money. Movie appears very rich. Tamil flavour is visible in each and every frame.

Singam has shown the power of Police in an effective way. Though action scenes are excellent, Hari mark narration and twists are missing. As a result, Singam limits itself to mass audience.

Murder 3 Reviews

If the truth be told, the essence of this neatly-packaged thriller about what lies beneath is obtained in the second half where the whole philosophy of the mirror-image and the reflection of the soul in the individual conscience is given a walloping visual manifestation. Hats off to debutant director Vishesh Bhatt for bringing to life that tricky zone which separates mirage from reality.

The film opens on a rather unpromising note. We see a sexy restaurant manager (Sara Loren) take a drunken lout home. Just why she's do anything so foolhardy in today's day and age of heightened sex crimes, is beyond logic. They are soon in an intense relationship punctuated by bouts of monotonous pseudo-Sufiana songs that add nothing to narrative momentum.

Suddenly mid-way through the narrative finds its bearings to strike a deep chord within the plot's heart and emerge with a cat-and-mouse game where the two ladies, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sara Loren indulge in a cat-and-mouse game that leaves the film's official hero hopelessly marginalized.

While it would be unfair to give away the plot, suffice it to say that if you are lucky enough to have not seen the original, this film would knock you out of your seat. The entire drama is done in the style of a chamber-piece replete with remarkably precise art decor detailing .

While Raju Singh's background score adds to the aura of foreboding and, yes, Sunil Patel's cinematography is impeccably radiant it is Aditi Rao's performance as a woman trapped in a maze of her own suspicion who imparts a sense of gamine-like fun to the inherent terror quotient of the drama.

Indeed, Aditi is the hero of "Murder 3" furnishing a sense of foreboding to the kinetic goings-on. Sara Loren as the girl on the opposite side of the mirror image has a fetching face and fairly expressive body... language! But the talented Randeep Hooda's drunken drawls and brooding machismo are now getting repetitive. Time for a reinvention, Mr Hooda.

In terms of visual and emotional fluency and in connecting the supernatural content to a compelling context, "Murder 3" moves far ahead of the first and second instalments of the franchise. Mired in a mystique that constantly unravels whispering dark secrets, the film marks an assured directorial debut for Vishesh Bhatt.

Ambikapathy - Tamil Movie Review

Bollywood and its love stories.. here is a new definition of love.. 'Ambikapathy' this Eros International feature which launches the south sensation Dhanush in Bollywood is a brilliantly written, marvelously performed and soulfully sung desi capricious love guide beautifully realized by director Aanand Rai.. We are used to feel good romancers with added dose of bromance thrown in regularly by the tinsel town filmmakers.. 'Ambikapathy' is an unsuspecting welcome surprise which turns from poetic to politics taking the viewers on a journey which witnesses adolescent, obsession, jealously, friendship, ignorance, innocence, faith, love, loss, sacrifice, anger, revenge, guilt all one after the another and hold its 'heart' right at the centre for its recognition as a wonderfully told different love story of Bollywood.. The Story.. Himanshu Sharma as the writer does a marvelous job here.. the story is set on the holy ghats of Ganges Banaras where Kundan (Dhanush) sees Joya (Sonam Kapoor) much before his adolescent and falls in love with her head over heels... Circumstances force Zoya to go to Delhi for further education. A wannabe politician (Abhay Deol) steals her heart... but be aware this is not a run of the mill triangle and just when you expect that now the feel good regular bollywood romancer will take charge.. the writer shocks you with a twist which can be anything from a political conspiracy to a joke on the so called paper revolutionaries (social media) revolutionaries who jump in the protest without understanding the root cause of the issue.. and the writer manages this difficult task of twining the poetry of love in Banaras to the politics of the so called 'waken' up young souls in the capital Delhi in this new found 'touchy' adage of love which is also blended with attitude.. What to look out for Aanand Rai and his writer Himanshu Sharma are in song when they take us to Banaras.. the settings, the mood, the atmosphere, the lingo everything is bang on.. Tanu Weds Manu proved that Aanand Rai is a good director... The banaras episodes in 'Ambikapathy' crosses the career bridge for Aanand and brings him to the point where his substantial talent becomes vividly clear.. Anand's narration backed by Himanshu's writing powers gives an utter assurance of a profoundly moving picture in store for us when the love story in Banaras grows and continue to grow.. the moments are highly entertaining, humorous, poetic and yet so simplistic.. Excellent.. as said earlier Himanshu Sharma's dialogues are sheer brilliant piece of writing but those silent moments in the film where everything gets shared with the viewers just by expressions is just magic.. The confidence by which Aanand Rai takes the movie to an unconventional route deserves high praise..Himanshu again supports the cause of his director and we get a pulsating climax which knocks you out of the blue and Vow!! What a way to end.. real Ashiqui.. must say.. Propelled by A.R.Rahman's soulfully soothing scores.. 'Ambikapathy' gets an inspiring lift.. Tu Mun Shudi, Tum Tak, Piya Milenge are highly addictive enhancing the movie watching experience.. Vishal Sinha and Nataraja Subramanian do a beautiful job with their camera which captures the beauty of Banaras and the chaos in Delhi to great effect.. Hemal Kothari editing is crisp.. Production Design by Wasiq Khan and Art Direction by Tariq Umar Khan is up to mark.. Coming to performances Dhanush debut in Bollywood is terrific.. he is a stealer.. those who has seen him are worthy of his talents and 'Ambikapathy' is all set to widen his fan base all over.. this actor is so simple and yet magical.. his comic timings is excellent.. while his emotional rendering on screen is touchy moving.. capturing the viewer right from the first frame till the end.. Dhanush with his brilliance makes us believe that this role was tailored made for him.. Sonam Kapoor is a revelation.. this is her finest performance till date.. Abhay Deol is fantastic.. From the supporting cast Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as the side kick Dhanush friend is the best. He gets some goods lines also.. he is sheer fun.. Swara Bhaskar gets a meaty role and she proves her versatility.. What not The transformation of Ranjhanaa from poetic to politics is somewhat sudden and looks hurried.. though the sequences prove a point but it takes some extra time of the viewers to digest this sudden revolution in this love story.. Conclusion: 'Ambikapathy' this 140 minutes film strikes a rather unconventional notes of love ordered by Anand, orchestrated by A.R.Rahman's soulful tunes and powered by amazing performances by Dhanush and Sonam.. traveling between love, faith and loss taking the viewer on a journey that ends with a beautiful final image we rarely see in cinema. 'Ambikapathy' is a movie that should be seen, savored and thoughtfully appreciated.

Annakodi - Tamil Movie Review

It was a rather disappointing term, as it took five years and further delay for director Bharathiraja to deliver his next bout of creativity. As he quotes often, across the length and breadth of Tamil Nadu, many of the small towns and villages have a tale of their own, narrating their part of the world with staunch beliefs, faith and customary practices. Known to boldly highlight that which is often either taken for granted or shied away from, Bharathiraja usually ensures that he has left no stone unturned, in each of his movie. This is what guaranteed him six national awards, for his classic yesteryear entertainers.

A journey that began in '16 Vayathinile', awarded him a choice award right in his debut. Proceeding on a journey through 'Kizhake Pogum Rail', 'Sigappu Rojakal', 'Nizhalgal', 'Oru Kaidhiyin Diary', 'Tik Tik Tik' and many more, Bharathiraja became a brand name. With National Award winning films like 'Mudhal Mariyadhai' and 'Karuthamma', he brought out the best that Kollywood can deliver. Among most of his movies, there has been a fine thread of similarity, that brings out one of the deadliest plague of the society - caste bias and discrimination. Expressed vividly in 'Alaigal Oivathillai' and 'Karuthamma', the typical Bharathiraja touch has been about love that blooms and flourishes beyond societal stereotypes like caste, creed and money - which, disappointingly, falls emotionless and flat in 'Annakodi'.

First there was speculation about the name, then the release date and then the movie itself; all this had only increased the expectations movie, for when there is a controversy, there's bound to a success story. Unfortunately, none of that marketing worked the trick here. First things first - the film is period set, probably close to independence, which is evident in the police's half pants. Two small villages that nurture the hero and heroine each, and as predictable as it can get, the two populus are eternally at customary loggerheads. And there begins the saga of love. Starting off at a mutual taunting misunderstanding, as it most often happens, the two fall madly in love with one another. There is a bad yet influential man in the village, who composes the rest of the story, and who gets who in the end, is ultimately all 'Annakodi' is about. Well, easier said than done.

Bharathiraja has always defined love in new and out-of-the-box the box explanations. This one is also an off-beat portrayal of how the lead pair influence the life of one another and change their lives forever. Set in the backdrop of draught stricken village that thrives on farmer and shepherd population, forms an easy excuse for the love birds to join hands stealthily every now and then. This delivers a definite earthen feeling, where the director scores high, as always. Add to this, there are a lot more twists in the story, than you can ever imagine. However, despite all this, it is quite monotonous.

The second half is quite a balm, but not sure whether it is because there is a much needed break in between, or because there is actually more stuff per scene than the former. The last hour brings out most of what was intended to be a part of the movie - it ranges between love, separation, angst and anger. Going further, the movie gets highly predictable at every frame, and the story is no suspense. As if caught up in a drama competition, running out of time, climax is quite sudden, but comes as an entertaining relief.

On the other hand, everyone is advancing and becoming up to date, and our dear director is no exception to the rule. The bad side of the advancement is exposure and raw details, a glimpse of which was served in the teasers. Although the government cleared the film with U/A at the Censor Board, no adult may want the a child watching it, even under their supervision. Since it is a big director's movie, Lakshman Narayan, Karthika and Manoj are to get a big break, but their contribution on this regard seems too little. GV Prakash has done a good job with regard to background score and music, and justifies the movie to the best extent possible, from his side of work. Picture is crystal clear, so make up could have taken care of, a little better. If the teaser made you squirm in your seat, then please be informed that it was after all only the teaser, while the whole movie lies ahead of it.

In all, the movie is a hard core love struggle, the burden of which reaches the audience by all means. After all the painful wait and suspense about the movie, the output is not quite satiating; and it is disappointing that this comes from one of the most sought after directors. To savour your earthen tastes, and for your love for the director, you can try and sit through the two hours odd long story once.

Verdict: You may like it for Bharathiraja

Ghanchakkar - Hindi movie review

Banner:UTV Motion Pictures
Cast:Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan, Rajesh Sharma, Namita Das
Direction:Rajkumar Gupta
Production:Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur
Music:Amit Trivedi
What is it all about?

Wow.. UTV teams up with Raj Kumar Gupta (Aamir, No One Killed Jessica) along with Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan (Dirty Picture) to tickle our funny bones by tickling at the con comedy zone... But Ain.. Mr Gupta in his paradigm shift from stirring souls to con jhols goes wrong in convincing and conveying this chakkar that was designed to make you go Wow! instead provokes a great big Huh? (read Ain)..

The Story

The writers Raj Kumar Gupta and Parveez Sheikh plan this heist with a bhol bhulaiya twist where Sanju (Emraan Hashmi) a lootera (read thief) teams up with two weirdo robsters where one of them Idris (Namit Das) is more crazy over raw brinjals then fresh lobsters and loves to play doctor doctor with his telephone kumari (read friend) while the other Pandit (Rajesh Sharma) is always found dressed in safari.. They do a great bank robbery which turns out to be a great bollywood tribute to Holywood's Kathryn Bigelow's 'Point Break'.. but wait as everything goes accordingly Sanju gets the responsibility of hiding the money for three months because he is married and stays with his wife Neetu (Vidya Balan) who suffers from fashion phobia and loves to wear anything in 'vogue' be it designed for a lady in Ethiopia or Indonesia... when the time to split the booty Sanju claims of memory loss and.. and.. and..

What to look out for?

Gupta starts extremely well.. the bank robbery is hilarious and gem of a moment. The passenger with vegetables, the doctor doctor on phone, the road side baba, Vidya Balan's craze for latest fashion are all sheer fun... First half manages to paste a constant smile on the audience face and kudos to Gupta and Parveez for this accomplishment..

Its certainly not at all easy to make the audience happily interested with smiles in such genre where crime and humour are on a date..

Coming to performances Emraan Hashmi is excellent. This is not his comfort zone but he excels. The trauma, anguish, disbelief Emraan does it with finesse. Brilliant.

Vidya Balan.. well first of all she deserves a pat for agreeing to play a non protagonist and the wonder is even after not playing the central character Vidya shines in this Punjabi housewife 'avatar' which is hilarious, funny, and entertaining, her lingo is spot on with and without those polka dots.. Vidya gives a meaty 'weighty' performance. Excellent.

Rajesh Sharma is superb as ever. Namit Das is very good.  Parvin Dabas is okay.

Amit Trivedi music is in flavor. Satyajit Pande does a fine job with his lenses. Aarti Bajaj's editing is fine. Rick Roy's costumes do justice to the characters. Production values are up to mark.

What not

After a very promising first half Gupta suddenly post interval suffers from identity crisis's and almost murders the movie's identity.. the script written jointly by himself and Parveez fails to find any wings for a cinematic high neither it winks for a possible layer or a statement.. the balance of comedy and crime is lost and we are taken to a whodunit zone and even there also the writer director miss the golden rule - they fool you but doesn,t care to give you a reason that you have been fooled.

Post interval the tedious and monotonous forgetting episodes force the audience to lose interest and they don,t care whether Emraan is finding his memory or losing it again.. such movies need an out of the blue never thought of wind up but alas its ends up as a disappointment.

Ghanchakkar problems doesn,t end over here.. blame it on the not so exciting climax.. the background, star status and previous critical and box office acclaim of Emraan, Vidya and Rajkumar Gupta threatens to go against the film.. a lesser known/acclaimed actors directors would have being forgiven for the blunders..

Conclusion: 'Ghanchakkar' - Raj Kumar Gupta's paradigm shift from stirring souls to con jhols starts well but suddenly loses its way and forgets to recover. The brilliant performance by Emraan, Vidya and the supporting cast and the first half is the only saving grace.. the movie which was designed to make the audience laugh at its will after a while commits a crime of letting the audience have their last laugh by the end...

Balupu Telugu Movie Review, Rating

Star cast: Ravi Teja, Shruti Haasan, Anjali
Producer: Prasad Vara Potluri,
Director: Gopichand Malineni.

Balupu Review: Story

Shruthi[ Shruthi Hassan] gets engaged to Rohit[Adivi Sesh], their marriage set to be after ten days. Crazy Mohan [Brahmanandam] uncle of Shruthi tempts her to enjoy life for these ten days by playing love pranks on innocent guys. One of Ravi’s [Ravi Teja] friend becomes victim of Shruthi-Brahmi’s prank and attempts suicide. Ravi comes into picture to teach a lesson for Brahmi-Shruthi and eventually Shruthi falls in love with him. But Ravi Teja steps down to accept her love bcoz of his past and his love Dr. Anjali[Anjali]. What is Ravi Teja’s past life? What;sw between Ravi Teja-Anjali? Will it turn into triangle love story? Does Shruthi-Adivi Sesh get married? Has to be seen on silver screen.

Balupu Review: StarPerformances

Ravi Teja gave energetic performances in two shades given to him. Differences which he carried in both characters are nice. This time Ravi Teja even showed a little modulation in his dialogue, which is fresh and looked good.
Shruthi Hassan gave a complete glam treat throughout the film. Her expressions, temping skin show, hot dance moves stands as plus points to Balupu. Shruthi is very near close in reaching NO 1 heroine place of Tollywood, if she counties this strategy which is applied in Balupu. Anjali looked cute but chubby and as per performances levels she scores cent percent marks. Anjali chemistry with Ravi Teja looked fine and if she doesn’t pull down her weight it will be BIG LOSS for her future.
Prakash Raj leaves his mark in two shades given to him. Brahmi will entertain you from his first frame till climax. His Gangnam Style dance, imitating Pawan Klayan and uttering Allu Arjun’s “maatallev…maataadukotaallev” dialogue at climax makes you laugh out loud. Ashutosh Rana, Adivi Sesh disappoints you as villains as their character are not strong enough along with less screen time given to them. Other character like Ali, Jaya Prakash, Lakshmi Rai and many characters just come in and go without much importance.

Balupu Review: Direction, Music & Technical Aspects

Gopichand Malineni direction is not so great but kind of OK.  But Gopi has presented Ravi Teja the way he fans wanted him to see silver screen. This time Thaman music is not quite high but his BSG sounds fine.
Jayanan Vincent cinematography looks beautiful in songs and overall its neat. Goutham Raju editing can be much better, he could have made use of his scissors in second half. Dialogues inked by team of Kona Venkat- K.S.Ravindra are entertaining in first half and it slows down in second half. Production values are rich throughout the movie.

Balupu Review: Analysis

First half of the film runs in an entertaining pattern. Ravi Teja comic episodes with Brahmi and even Shruthi-Brahmi scenes are very enjoyable. Powerful punch dialogues here and there will keep Ravi Teja’s mass touch alive. Key twists in the movie getting revealed at pre-interval is big minus of Balupu. Fight scenes looks more of artificial, killing essence in the movie. Potential actors like Adivi Sesh, Ali, Jaya Prakash Reddy, Rao Ramesh, Brahmaji, Adithya Menon and many are wasted.
Things go out of proportion in second half, there are many unnecessary scenes which are placed forcibly and even screenplay is not so interesting here. Flashback part is not so effective but Ravi Teja’s performance with punch dialogues like “Nenu vadilesindi rowdeeijaannee..naalo unna balupuni kaadu..nannu kelakoddu”, “ Ye fear lenodu endulonanina interfere avutaadu” builds up little mass mood but drops down instantly.
Finally: Not a complete ACTION ENTERIANER, but watchable once for Ravi Teja-Brahmi comedy

Ekk Deewana Tha review

I hope you don't have lice
Cast: Prateik BabbarAmy JacksonSachin Khedekar
Directed by Gautham Menon
Rating: Minus Ek
Pain and pleasure have the same facial expression. This is why you will share the same face with the lead cast of ‘Ekk Deewana Tha’ through the entire runtime. Love stories that curdle, portray societal and familial tribulations. But here, there is a far graver issue beyond the usual jaat-paat, rich-poor etc: The lead duo can’t act to save Tibet. And as dismissive as it may sound in the first paragraph of this review, it is in fact the iceberg that makes this painful love story crash as we endure the burn.

The film is about an aspiring filmmaker and unemployed dreamer Sachin (Prateik Babbar) who gets knocked out of his world when he bumps into a celestial Mallu-Catholic girl Jessie (Amy Jackson). Following a bit of cutesy stalking, he proposes. She rejects on account of avoiding inter-caste hassles and for their age difference (she’s a year older). He refuses to give up and takes stalking to epic heights by landing up in Kerala, her native place. A lot of dancing, a few digs at Kerala-ites and some storming punches later, we’re left with lot of broken noses and few tattered nerves. By now, you get restless for Amy to give in or at least take a firm stand on anything so that we can get on with our lives. But Amy won’t give up before playing runaway bride, leading him on yet not consenting and making it suffocating for Sachin, the audience and everybody involved. But this is just half the agony for we have the second part to go. After you have braved 70% of the movie, Amy finally accepts and admits to Sachin’s lure only to call it off minutes later over something as trivial as Sachin ignoring a couple of her phone calls. And while love can be a painful feeling, this amateurish attempt at heartbreak can be only worse.

Prateik and Amy are equally challenged in their speech and overall ability to portray joy, suffering, betrayal and most other suitable feelings. So often, an intense dialogue muttered with certain amount of lisp and an air of lazy indifference only reduces cinema to a reality show featuring extras. And while low expectations usually ensure one isn’t disappointed, this one puts you down even when you’re betting on nothing.

Mr Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, A R Rahman is yet another party pooper who seems to have stopped reinventing and his work here sounds like a remixed version of his earlier tunes with heavier bass notes. ‘Hosanna’ may be an instant hit but the bizarre hip-hopping that the video features as the song breaks in abruptly in the movie makes it difficult to enjoy the composition.

After remaking Gautham Menon’s Tamil blockbuster ‘Kakha Kakha’ in Hindi as ‘Force’ last year, Fox Star Studios decided to let him re-jig his own ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa’ as this insufferable cinematic blot. Reinstating my stand on remakes, they cannot avoid being compared to the original. And it’s a fail-fail case, since changing the plot means that you’ve lost the fans of the original and if you don’t, then you’re a mere photo-copier.
In a world where any shooting location is a prospective tourism plug, this one does very little for Kerala. For this, all fingers can be confidently pointed at the DOP and the cinematographer who make the lord’s native country seem a little less inviting than the last music video/ love song picturised there.

Through his struggle and strive to win his lady love, Sachin keeps ranting one line, “Duniya mein itni ladkiyan hain par mujhe Jessie se hi pyaar kyun hua?” Perhaps, because Jessie Jaisi Koi Nahin? But the question you will find yourself pondering over through the film will be, “Multiplex mein itni movies hain, phir maine iss movie ka ticket hi kyun liya?”

Dhoni Telugu Movie Review

Dhoni Review – Dhoni Telugu Movie Review, Rating,
Banner : Duet movies
Music : Ilayaraja
Producer : prakash raj
Direction :
 prakash raj
Dhoni Tamil Film Review: Prakash Raj, who made debut as director in Kannada with the remake of Aakasamantha, comes to show his directorial skills to Telugu and Tamil audiences with Dhoni. It is also a remake of Marathi movie “Shikshanacha Aaicha Gho” directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. This film deals about the problems with the current education system and a middle class father’s fight for his son’s better future.

Story:

Subramanyam (Prakash Raj) is a lower middle class widower with two kids. He works as a clerk in a government office and runs his family on tight budget. He never compromises on his kids education and he spends a fortune on their studies. But his son Karthik (Aakash) is not interested in studies, but is a talented cricket player. Subramanyam can’t just leave his son staying away from education and a secured future. In one angry moment, he hits his kid and goes into coma. Subramanyam then realizes his mistake and starts to fight against the education system.

Analysis:

Dhoni is a predictable story right from the outset. We know what it is going to offer from the trailers itself. What counts is how the story was narrated. Prakash Raj has only half succeeded in getting his narration correct.

First half of the film is really good with some good humor sprinkled here and there. Prakash Raj sets the right atmosphere for a middle class family and he has brought the life in to the film with natural scenes. At times we feel like we are watching our neighbor’s or our own life on screen.

However, the story gets too complicated at the interval point. Whom should the protagonist blame for his son’s condition? Where does the fault lie? Prakash Raj’s search for answers for the above questions doesn’t seem logical. The film completely takes sidetrack from the TV talk show scene (which was poorly conceived). Climax is not up to the mark.

Dhoni failed to live up to the cause that it was made for. On a whole it is a good attempt that fails to get the message right.

Performances:

Prakash Raj is brilliant as an actor. He has excelled in every scene. Aakash is fine within his limitations. Radhika Apte is neat. Murali Sharma’s role is interesting but poorly etched. Gollapudi, Tanikella Bharani and Brahmanandam did their bit.

Technicalities:

Concept of the film is good. Screenplay in the second half is pretty bad. Dialogues are natural. Cinematography is fine. Editing could have been better.

Ilayaraja’s background score is an asset. Songs are in sync with the mood of the film. Production values are up to the mark. Prakash Raj’s direction is good in parts. He should have handled the second half in a better way. Talk show scene is crucial from the subject point of view, but Prakash Raj failed as a director in that scene. Even the climax scenes highlight his shortcomings as a director.

Final Word:

Dhoni can be watched once for the intentions it was made. A better second half with heart touching moments might have done wonders to it.

Dhoni Movie Rating: 2.5/5

Rushi Telugu Movie Review

Rushi Review – Rushi Telugu Movie Review, Rating, Rushi Film Review: Prestigious production house Prasad productions produced this film and that has been the sole selling point for Rushi, which has no attractive star cast or any side attractions. Here is the review…

Banner : Prasad Productions
Casting : Supriya Shailaja, Aravind Krishna,
Music : Snigdha
Producer : Ramesh Prasad
Direction : Raj Madiraj

Story:

Rushi (Aravind Krishna) is an arrogant medico, who wins hearts of his co students and tutors slowly. Pooja (Supriya Sailaja) and Rushi’s friendship starts with few misunderstandings and later they fall in love. Rushi gives aid to Karthik, a seven year old boy in an emergency. That irks the authorities and they reprimand him for treating a kid without proper knowledge. Rushi learns that Karthik is suffering from heart ailment and there is a need of heart transplant. Meanwhile, Rushi suffers with brain tumor and he wants his heart to be transplanted for Karthik. Rest of the film is about Rushi’s legal struggle and his battle to save Karthik.

Analysis:

These days films are not as promising as the trailers. Rushi is an exception for it. The film is definitely better than the trailers. The film has a novel point and doesn’t follow the beaten track. There is a lot of research done by the director about the medicos and it is evident. He got a solid story on hands but the treatment needed some fine tuning before it hit the floors.

Director’s inexperience played foul game in crucial scenes where he faltered big time. The film lacked the drama despite having so much scope for it. There is an imitation of Happy Days and 3 Idiots here and there. Except for the heroine, none of the side characters are etched properly.

The other medicos around Rushi behave so mean that it would be hard to believe that they are going to take up a responsible job. First half is okay with routine scenes and the second half starts on a good note. Climax is a letdown with poor handling of the director.

Performances:

Aravind Krishna’s performance is flat with single expression throughout the film. He needs to sharpen his skills if he is planning for fulltime career in films. His dialogue delivery also needs some adjustments. Sailaja Supriya is confident and there is ease in her performance. Suresh is good as an arrogant professor. Master Gourav provides few light moments.

Technicalities:

Don Chandra’s songs are bad, but background score is neat. Tribhuvan Babu’s cinematography and Sreekar Prasad’s editing stands out. Production values are good. Director excelled in few scenes and faltered in key episodes. On a whole he shows promise.

Final Word:

Rushi is a novel film which surprises the viewers with a very good story point. Had they got the execution right, it would have been a good film too. Try it if you are looking for something different from the routine run of the mill stuff.

Rushi Movie Rating: 2/5

SMS (Siva Manasulo Sruthi) Movie Review

SMS Review – Siva Manasulo Shruti Telugu Movie Review, Rating,
Banner : Super Good Films
Casting : Naga Sudhir Babu, Regina,
Music Director : Selva
Producer : Ghatamaneni Priya
Directior : Thatineni Satya

SMS Film Review: A new star from Superstar Krishna, Mahesh Babu family makes debut with SMS, a remake of Tamil hit Siva Manasala Shakti (SMS). Tatineni Satya of ‘Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu’ fame directed it.

Story:
Siva (Sudhir) is a courier boy, who falls in love with RJ Shruti (Regina) at the first sight. They cheat each other by telling lies about their professions and later they come to know about the actual facts. Cat and mouse game starts between the two which eventually turns into unexpressed love. Siva’s odd behavior puts Shruti off and the couple gets separated. How they unite forms the climax of the film.

Analysis:

SMS is a romantic comedy which doesn’t take itself serious. That is the beauty of this cute little fun film. The film starts off on a dull note. Initial scenes don’t impress you much. But once the ‘love fight’ starts between the lead pair, things get smoother and funnier.

There are numerous one liners that will have you in splits. Also the love story seems cute and sweet in the first hour. Despite some shortcomings, SMS first half does impress the audience. Second half too is dealt in a lighter vein mode.

Inconsistency in hero’s characterization seems to be the biggest problem for SMS. He doesn’t act wise and speaks trash that puts the heroine as well as the audience off. Director made it up with the neatly done climax sequence.

SMS is a movie for young audience and it will please the target audiences. It is worth a watch for the comedy and freshness.

Performances:
Sudhir did a fine job for a first timer. He is good at dances. Voice seems to be his biggest weakness. Performance wise he is okay. Regina is the find of the season. She did a brilliant job. Vinay Mohan is hilarious with his comedy punches. Vennela Kishore too excelled in his role. Saranya is loud. Tagubothu Ramesh did his usual ‘drunkard’ comedy in one scene. Kasi Viswanadh and others are okay in their respective roles.

Technicalities:

Music by Selva Ganesh is average. Songs are good to watch, but not great on ears. Nandyala Ravi’s dialogues are pretty good. Chitti Babu’s cinematography is just okay. There is nothing noticeable on the editor’s part. Production values are fine.

Director Tatineni Satya handled the movie well barring few odd scenes. He should try to make a straight movie as remakes will never give the clear picture about a director’s talent. He made subtle yet effective changes to the original script and that is laudable.

Final Word:

SMS is a fun movie which should get good response from the target audience. It falls in the category of films like Ala Modalaindi, Ashta Chamma etc. Watch SMS if you liked those films.

SMS Movie Rating: 3/5

Family Bonds ‘Maa Naana Chiranjeevi’ Is A Light Hearted Entertainer Suitable For The Entire Family

True to its title, Laughing Lord Entertainments has come up with a hilarious film on family bonding, Maa Naana Chiranjeevi (MNC) directed by P.A. Arun Prasad with Jagapathi Babu, Neelima and Master Athulith in the lead. It has a sub title, Antay Pedda Hero.
“For every child his father is a role model and a big hero, Megastar Chiranjeevi symbolises that big hero. Hence the title and the sub title,” explains Arun Prasad as we enter the state-of-the-art dubbing theatre in Prasad Labs. The unit helmed by producer Jayasree has completed the shooting part and MNC is now in its post-production work.
Arun Prasad, the perfectionist who takes interest in every aspect of filmmaking, sits besides the engineer at the console to monitor the dubbing work. A couple of professional dubbing artistes are at the mike to lend voice to some minor characters. Jagapathi Babu is shooting in night shifts these days and is to join the dubbing session in the afternoon according to the director.
As the scenes are flashed on the monitor, the plot unravels. The theme runs on family relationships, between spouses and father-son bonding. The story moves forward with other characters like M.S. Narayana, Telangana Sakunthala, Ali, Jayaprakash Reddy, Jhansi and Brahmanandam entering midway through to provide wholesome entertainment.
For Jagapathi Babu it is a refreshing change from the action and emotion filled characters he usually plays. He is back to soft family themes. Master Athulith of Tulasi plays his son.
“The entire film is set in light banter. There are emotional scenes but they are under played without an iota of melodrama,” explains the director. The hero had said at an earlier interaction that the film is in the genre of Subhalagnam and Neelima, (granddaughter of veteran producer-director V. Madhusudana Rao) reminds one of Aamani from the super hit film.
In these days of recession, Arun Prasad has wound up shooting two films (Yagam being the other film) at one go. “We were doing it earlier. It is possible if we can stick to the 7a.m. to 6p.m. call sheets instead of the 11a.m. to 5p.m. shooting hours. If I shoot like that even I can take 100 call sheets to make a film. But I am not trained in such a way. I had complete cooperation of my actors and the unit. Jagapathi Babu is always on the sets at 6.30a.m. for a 7a.m. call sheet.”
Hemachandra who debuted as a music director with the hit, Ride, composed the tunes for MNC too. The songs were shot in Bangkok. “There is only one interval in the film as we have kept only two songs that were captivatingly shot by cinematographer Bharani K. Dharan,” says the director with a smile. The USP of the movie is that every family member can identify with the lead characters, he adds signing off. MNC is expected to hit the screens in August.
