We should know the target before aiming arrow. Without knowing target if we shoot arrow, then its’ no use. Same formula works even in film making. If we know who our target audience are, then we can craft movie according to their sensibilities. Hari has shown his maturity in this aspect. He has decided to impress mass audience with Singam and crafted it like a pucca mass action flick. Let’s see what efforts Surya and Hari have made in this Yamudu sequel to impress masses. Let’s find out whether Singam will impress the masses.
Narasimham (Surya) is a powerful police officer. He earns reputation as a brave police officer after solving a difficult case in Goa. With confidence on Narasimham, CM gives the responsibility of a special case to Narasimham. An international gang is importing illegal arms and weapons from foreign nations to Kakinada. Narasimham has to nab that gang. Surya goes to Kakinada on that mission, not as a police but as a NCC master. By working as NCC master itself, Surya finds out that Thyagaraju, Bhai and Dolly are main culprits in that illegal activity. Only after finding out these details, he takes charge as DSP. How Narasimham nabs these three baddies and saves Kakinada is rest of the story.
This is a pucca mass and action story. Though there isn’t any story, action sequences abound. Director Hari has planned action sequences pretty well. Story runs slowly till Surya takes charge as DSP. It gathers pace after caste clashes in Kakinada. Though it appears that Hansika’s character is just for running story, her character attains significance with drama created in the final stages of the movie. Audience get to see foreign chase scenes in climax, as Narasimham goes to South Africa to catch Dolly.
Compared to Yamudu, Singam has less twists. For that matter there are no twists at all. Yamudu runs with Surya and Prakashraj plotting against each other and outsmarting each other. But there is no such drama in Singam. It’s a complete one sided war with Surya bashing goons at every possible instance. Though action sequences appear as coming just for the sake of action episodes, B and C centre audience will enjoy no doubt.
It appears, just because Anuska starred in Yamudu, director decided to cast her in Singam also. There is no special role for her except dancing in songs. Hansika’s situation is also more or less same, but she has been useful in creating drama in the end. Though Anjali appeared sexy, camera could not capture her beauties perfectly. Lack of a powerful villain is the main drawback of Singam. Santhanam comedy is artificial.
Surya excelled in action scenes. Someone has dubbed for Surya. All through the movie Surya appears shouting in such a loud voice that dubbing artiste’s voice might have sure damaged. Surya has done dances also like fights, unable to come out of police emotion. Devi Sri Prasad music is on the lines of a dubbed movie music. Even in RR, we don’t find his mark. Producers have dished out huge money. Movie appears very rich. Tamil flavour is visible in each and every frame.
Singam has shown the power of Police in an effective way. Though action scenes are excellent, Hari mark narration and twists are missing. As a result, Singam limits itself to mass audience.
